Any Nikon lenses 300mm or longer for less than £300?

Although I have decided to probably go for a Nikon 70-300 vr, wanted to see if there were any other lenses, 300mm or longer for less than £300?

Whatever I buy will not be used that often, hence the budget and me selling my 70-200 Nikon even though it's excellent. Probably 2 maybe 3 air shows a year, maybe used a couple of other times at most. Because I prefer prop aircraft I tend to shoot f8-f13 a lot of the time so does not need to be fast, although really after good IQ. In an ideal world would love a Nikon 300mm f4 prime!

Happy to consider non Nikon and also MF lenses and primes.
 
For the budget I think you would be looking at a mirror lens ( and the associated issues)
 
Nothing of any worth im afraid, if youre very lucky to could pick up a Sigma 100-300mm f/4 for around £450 but they are getting quite rare as people hang onto them, they really are superb quality and superb value for money, even better IQ than the Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8
 
Not sure how much these go for but they have a fine reputation

As usual takes Uncle Ken's reports with a pinch of salt but it does get universally good reviews and if you don't mind manual focus it seems ideal.

talking of which, does anyone actually use one! I'm not interested in "professional" shots or perfect photos, i just fancy the longer reach of a mirror.

seeing as you can get a 500mm for around £100 and an 800mm for around £180.

you can find a fair few examples posted round the net if you look. I *suspect* if you go in with the expectations that you get what you pay for, and understanding the limitations, then for the money you'll probably be quite happy.

The Samyang 500mm/f8 is about £120 last I looked, and the f6.3 about £10-20 more than that.
 
I had a Nikon 55-300mm that I used mainly for cricket shots when I had a DX camera. I found it perfectly adequate for that and the IQ and AF pretty good. On sunnier days I would leave the 70-200 at home and use the 55-300 instead as it is very small in comparison.

I sold it on here a while back and the purchaser seemed quite pleased with it, I've never seen another one come up here but they are under your budget:shrug:

I used to have one which I sold on here a while ago in order to get Nikon 70-200 VR... Cracker of a lens and worked well with siggies 1.4x TC like Gary said - they are becomming rarer than rocking horse 5h17... At times I wished I never got rid of mine :'(
 
The Tamron SP 70-300mm VC is within budget. Failing that, what about an older Sigma 400/5.6 APO AF prime? If you don't mind manually focusing lenses, then there is the old Nikon 500/8 mirror (Ffordes have one for £225 at the mo) or you could look for a Tamron SP 60-300mm with Nikon mount (whole lot will be well under £100.00) although you need to stop that down to f/7.1 to avoid purple fringing. One other option would be a Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 300/4 with Nikon to Pentacon Six adapter. You could stick a 1.4x TC on that as well :)
