my 7d is on its last legs, looking to replace.will be using with sigma 150/600.many thanks, andy.

I used one for quite a while. Superb bit of kit, great AF, really good high ISO, IQ is in a totally different league to the 7d.

It only lacks a really high fps if you're a bird in flight specialist but otherwise I'd highly recommend it.

I used one for a few years, it's a great all rounder, the only thing to bear in mind is the loss of effective focal length (pixels on target). Have you considered the 7D2?

IQ isnt as good, noise control is worse on 7d2. Fps and "length" are the only things going for the 7 against the 5 imo.

Granted, however all are better than the 7d. With regards to IS, other than at higher ISO, there isn't much between them. To fill the frame on a 5d3 the same as a 7d with 600 you're looking at adding a 1.4x converter and losing a stop of light (and also most of the focus points) the other option. Is to crop into the shot which takes you down to about 10mp (half the 7d2)

I have both a 7D2 and a 5D3 and for wildlife I almost exclusively use the 7D2. The AF is considerably better for fast moving subjects, and although you can have up for the loss of effective focal length by cropping, the subject needs to be a certain size in the viewfinder to lick focus on, so that only takes you so far for small subjects. For portraits, weddings, parties etc the 5D3 is brilliant, but for birds in flight and fast moving mammals, especially heading towards the camera, I find the 7D2 much better. Plus the 5D3 has a much noisier shutter, so I have use it on silent for close wildlife (I sometimes take both cameras to a hide) which slows down the fps.
