I feel bad posting this on a photography forum and I understand if mods want to take it down.

Basically I am after a pro camcorder for a possible new commercial venture. I am looking for something for around £5500 max and it will hopefully partner a 7D as I think I will downgrade from my current Canon 1DmkIV to part pay for the camcorder.

I have been looking at the Sony EX1R, EX3 and the Canon XF300. Does anyone have any experience of any other these?

Sony make the majority of the world's broadcast cameras, Canon just provide the lenses - so on that basis alone I'd go for one of the Sony's.

The EX1R and EX3 are part of the XDCAM pro line-up which is pretty extensive. http://www.sony.co.uk/biz/product/xdcamcamcorders. The EX3 will be easier to operate because it's bigger and heavier.

Also, if you buy a Sony before Xmas Eve you might be able to get the vat back. See http://www.techwatch.co.uk/2010/10/27/sony-unveils-vat-back-scheme-for-christmas/ and http://www.sony.co.uk/hub/1237479537389

WOW if I could get VAT back it would be a done deal that I would go with the Sony. I will have to look into what products are included in this offer.

The Techwatch website says it includes camcorders so you might be in luck.

Sony were also doing a 2yr 0% finance deal on selected top end broadcast gear e.g. HDCAM & HDCAM SR formats. - but it's ended now. IIRC some of the XDCAM line-up was included.

For prices, give Visual Impact a ring - they know their stuff. http://www.visuals.co.uk/default.php

I had a look on the Sony site and it seems to be just low end camcorders that are included in the VAT back scheme. I knew it was too good to be true. :bonk:

0% finance would be good but shame I've missed it. :(

I would be happy with a used pro camera but I really don't trust ebay. If someone on here is selling/thinking of selling I would be interested to hear from you.
