Any reason for my 50mm packed up earlier?

Was in the middle of a shoot earlier.. all fine until I went to take a shot and it wouldnt AF. Checked the M/AF switch and all ok. Luckily I had my 28-75 so put that on and worked fine. Tried the 50mm and same problem - one of the focus squares was fixed and would not move. Wiped the connection with my thumb, no joy. When I got home I wiped connectors with thumb again and it worked!

Is this just one of those things or possibly something more sinister? Lens is under a year old (1.4 AFS).

I had the same problem with a lens of mine, not the 50mm though, the lens woudlnt auto focus at all. I gave the connections a good cleaning using a hard earser (be carefull with dust in lens) and hey presto problem solved, I dont think it is anything more sinister just one of those things.
