not sharp 50mm 1.8 (canon)?

As I've seen the price of them varies wildly from cheapish on ebay, to a bit more on warehouse express. (Talking about new rather than 2nd hand)

and basically is it worth just buying the cheapest new one you can find? Even if it is from Hong Kong?

As I know people like to try the more expensive lenses before they buy to check they are really sharp.

Not really an answer to your question but Amazon had them at a good price recently which would avoid the grey import.

I have one and I love it, it is by far and away your cheapest route into the AF prime world, I have one myself and I wouldn't be without it, unless I get my hands on either a f/1.2 or f/1.4 versions :D
