any users of Canon 1000D EOS18-55

You'll have to give some further info.

What camera, if any, you had before (for comparison) or what you hope to shoot now?

Then the folks here can elaborate on the positives and negatives if I understand correctly :lol:

Briefly, Its a cheap way into new canon ownership, any new lenses you may aquire will work on a future upgrade unless you get efs lenses and then a full frame body.

Any old canon eos fit lenses you may have will fit and work as they should.

It's fairly light and battery grips are cheap <£50 if you feel you want something more substantial to hold.

The 18-55 however is not great and I recomend switching it for a second hand 18-55 is.

You may be better of though with a second hand 500d and is 18-55 lens as mint ones can be had for £400-£500 now (new may be £425 unsure)

The 500d has Raw capabilities and more megapixels and HD movie if this helps swing it.
 
The 100D was my first Canon camera! Will do everything you want to do for a good while.

Does not have video though so a 2nd hand 500D is a good choice if you want video, or a 2nd hand 40D if you want a more robust camera with faster FPS.

AFAIK, the 450D adds the additional:

* Spot metering
* Extra 2 MP
* Slightly larger viewfinder and LCD
* 9 v 7 point AF

Not a huge upgrade on the 1000D IMO ;)
