Any web resources for sunrise locations?

Yes
I'd enjoy travelling for specific locations, either sunrise or sunsets. I'm finding it difficult to determine where to go to get either of these. I live in West Yorkshire so haven't got the best access to costal locations or anything.

I was hoping there would be some sort of web resource for this :thinking: But so far all I've found is 'tips on settings' and things.

Thanks for any help or suggestions, I really appreciate any responses! (y)

This is about the only time I've taken a picture of a sunset, a day trip to blackpool, I'd really like to improve.

is what you need, download button is towards the bottom on the right hand side of the page.

Think you may need Google Earth installed, but not used it for a while.

i'd be interested in this as well. Ziggy, do you know the names of any of the android apps?

On the iPhone I use "LightTrac" there is also a version for android.

It can show the direction of the sun or moon, at any time, for any location.
You can save favorite locations and there is a section to work out shadows (which I don't really understand).
I have found it very useful for trips abroad.

I'm not sure that any of the above responses are what you are asking for, not the way I read it anyway.

Why not try searches on the likes of Flickr by region or county and sunrise/sunset etc, maybe that would pull up suitable locations for you?

A couple of other suggestions to go along with the excellent TPE already mentioned.

Have a look at this site http://www.geograph.org.uk/

It is attempting to have photos of every grid square. The coverage is good so you should be able to get an idea what many locations look like and decide which to visit.

Also have a look at OS maps to check locations for interesting features - churches, harbours, rock formations, lighthouses, valleys, lakes etc.

If it is an area I'm not familiar with I use the OS map overlay on Bing Maps

http://www.bing.com/maps/

to check it out first before shelling out on a map.

All you need then are the right weather conditions!

Is there anything that would also take into account terrain hills/mountains id like to know good locations that are quite high up ?

The OS maps have all the terrain details. Using TPE and an OS map you'll be able see exactly where the sun will rise or set and what the land looks like from any point you choose.
