I know this probably should not be in here but recently dropped my nikon sb900 speedlight and was looking at a replacement then came across a godox ad360 system any wedding guys here using these at weddings..quite like the look of the godox system just wondered if anyone had any first hand experience of using these out in the field..before I jump in..

But it's not really a replacement for an on camera flash. It will fit but it weighs a ton
 
As Phil said really.

Firstly the AD360Mk1 is manual power only so makes it a faff for on camera. The AD360Mk2 is TTL capable and it does work on camera. I've used it just for a laugh and it's surprisingly accurate. But just because you can doesn't mean you should and you will look a right numpty with that sat on top of your camera.

If I were you I'd look at the Yongnuo 568, Pixel X800N Pro or the Godox TT685N.

I've used all of them. The YN568 is cheap and compatible with most triggers. The Pixel's quite nice but not common. I've got two of the Godox's and the beauty of them is that they are compatible with the other 2.4Ghz Godox flash systems. So using the speedlight I can control the AD360 mk2 and my AD600 as well as the other TT685N. Or I can pop the X1N-T trigger and use both TT685's as remote slaves.

If you're going to use OCF regularly then the Godox are a powerful and flexible combination but they're not perfect.
 
Ok cheers guys..Yeh already have some of the yongnuo's as back ups..was just looking at a replacement for the sb900..and quite liked the godox system handy for events and weddings was my thought's.mk2 ttl was the one I had in mind..save me lugging a load of battery packs and studio lights around..and quite nicely priced..never realised it was as big as mentioned above..
was gonna stick it on top of my camera.:eek:..

This is the model I was wondering about..are you sure its too big to sit on top of the camera..

I think Martin has one, and I think he has tested it by mounting it on his camera.

But yes, it's bare bulb so it really needs a modifier to make it sing, and a reflective brolly behind your head will get you some funny looks and some strain on your hotshoe.

I think in the AD600 thread @mike weeks has posted an image of an sb900 alongside an AD360 and the AD600
 
Ok ..looks like I am gonna need a metz 60ct4 type bracket to hand hold the b****r..can't surely be any heavier than a metz 60ct4 with a 8'' portable softbox on..can it?
 
Have you considered a Metz Mecablitz 76 MZ-5. Also available with a sync shoe to give you full iTTL control. Not exactly suitable if your planning off camera/portable studio wedding location shots but great for on camera shots in all circumstances.

It's heavier than any flash ive ever used, by quite a way.

In fact I've never considered it to be anything other than an off camera item, it usually lives in an s type bracket which is either mounted to a light stand or on a VAL pole.

If that leaves you with a speedlight short, another Yongnuo won't break the bank.
 
Arr..to hell with it gonna get one anyway..seen the hand grip for it that attaches to a stand..and love the versatility of being able to attach the various modifiers .just need to find a stand I can attach a strap on.. to sling it over my shoulder..now wheres my credit card..:)
 
I've used the AD360 on camera for events and wildlife, more than a few times. I'm not too concerned with the hotshoe failing, but if I had a lower-end (plastic) body camera I might be a bit (but if it does, oh-well. That's what insurance is for). I actually have a coldshoe on the lens hood of my 400/2.8 and I've used it mounted there several times.
But if I were going to use it on camera a lot/frequently I would get a sturdy bracket and control it wirelessly. IMO, the 5" reflector w/ diffusion produces nicer light than any on camera speedlight setup (maybe even w/o diffusion).
Mine is non-TTL and that makes it a bit of a b****r when things are changing pretty fast. It's not "terrible" but TTL is *much* nicer... I've considered buying a TTL version because I like the thing so much.

That said, unless it's off camera on a stand I don't really think it's worth the hassles of weight/size/external battery/cables... unless you are shooting at max power/higher framerates, a TTL speedlight w/ internal batteries is just much easier and does the job.
 
Well it's finally landed from china or was it hong kong first one that came was for a Canon ttl..:eek: so had to be returned...got the right one this time for Nikon i ttl..now to give her a good working over at the weekend on a couple of weddings..as others mentioned not so sure about hand holding on my modified bracket system (she's a big beast..) we'll see.. but have now cobbled together a light stand and strap so can also now fling it over my shoulder..

The pixels look the job. I had a bit of a play with them at the photo show and was impressed. I'm currently selling my two Canon 580's Mkii and old pixel kings and going to replace the lot with three X800C's and a pixel king pro. The whole lot is cheaper than my current setup!! No brainer.

Can anyone who has used these things confirm that all of the below interact with each other both with TTL and Manually? It looks like the ideal setup if it all works. I'm getting rid of all the canon flashes I have so if these things are anyway reliable then that would be superb altogether.

1 x Godox Witstro AD360II-C TTL
2 x Godox TT685C
1 x X1C Flash Transmitter

I know in one of the reviews Martin mentioned that you can trigger the lot with the TT685C instead of the X1C but I think I would like the X1C for the rare times I am using the 2 flashes and AD360 off camera as well. Also, would you happen to know what the part number for the battery holder attached to your light stand is too?

That is what it is supposed to do but as a Nikon guy I cant test and prove it (but I do similar with Nikon using AD600, AD360II and V860)

Wistro is definately a nice build and looks like it will last.. time will tell..Same here I'm a nikon guy..and tested the ad360 ttl along with the trigger x1n I bought and in slave mode it fires off all these cheap yongnuo things I have as well..no problem..so along as you have slave mode and a channel setting on anything else you own.. you should be good to go..as far as I can see..not tried it with any studio lighting yet but should work the same way..

Just ordered the whole lot above as well as some modifiers, octobox etc. Cant wait to get it now :)
Unfortunately it doesn't look like I will have it in time for my next wedding on April 24 though :( The seller said they were in the UK but the delivery times are long so I presume they have no stock and it has to come from China first.
 
Well the AD360II arrived last Friday, just in time for the wedding but unfortunately the triggers and flashes haven't arrived yet.
I didn't have any time to test the triggers i have and everything was manual - running over and back to change settings - so only got one or two shots quickly but I'm delighted with it. The sun can go f**k itself from now on :)
