Hi all,

This is the thing... before, each series was colour coordinated or so I thought, but it seems canon have now just wacked a red neck strap on them all, so you can't quickly tell what someone is shooting with by neck strap

Why are you concerned about what someone else is using?

I tend to look at the camera to discern what they're shooting with ;)

All the Canon neck straps I have had have had the make and model clearly printed and well visible to anyone interested. My gripe is with the thin straps that connect to the camera from the main strap which are forever getting twisted, and I have to spend time unravelling the things to straighten in all out. Surely there is an easy way to fit a swivel joint to stop this, and all for a nominal cost I would think.

I never take the Canon straps out of their wrappers, I don't find them comfortable. I'm now so used to using a camera without a strap I think I prefer it that way.

I'm more likely to talk to somebody who's got a 5D in a street than 400D, as there's a higher chance they really enjoy photography.

i just use my custom branded Talk Photography strap...

LOL  That would exclude some really good photographers and some very nice people.

with the grip i use the E-1 strap and thats it.
without a grip i just coil it round my wrist and yes it is frustrating uncoiling it.
agree if canon would put bigger eyelets on the camera so a latch system could be used would be nice!

So anyone with a camera less than a 5d doesn't enjoy photography?? Then I'm one of them!
What a load of rubbish!!

i personally dont like having a billboard round my neck... however always friendly if someone asks me a question point or shoot or a 1DIV, doesnt matter to me.

@david what you said kinda portrays you as a little shallow.

Does it make any difference what make or model someone is using?
Apart from that I've always found the Canon straps pretty awful and I don't bother unwrapping them either.

Talk Photography branded straps are the ONLY suitable strap, I don't think I've ever opened the packet on a canon strap.

Snob:nono:

why on earth someone with a 400D would be anyless interested in photography i have no idea:cuckoo:

I have a 50D now but used to have 400D does that make me a better/more interested photogrpher??? Think not

I use Optech neoprene straps. They cushion weight of the camera/lens as you walk and don't twist or dig into your neck.

As for the OP's comments, why doesn't he have a strap that says "Please hate me - I'm an equipment fascist"?

Good point Brian, and when are us mortals going to be able to buy one
And, do they have swivels on to stop the straps twisting?
Cheers mate :)

That's why I use unbranded straps. I hate people thinking they can disturb me and talk about cameras when I am out taking pictures.

while it wasn't said in the best way, david kinda has a point someone with a 400d might be really into it or might be an average middle class person who would be astounded that someone started talking at them. someone with a pair of 1d3s is obviously a pro

I'll always chat to people shooting medium format film because theres no way to do it and not be dedicated :p

I live in a fairly touristy area though so its a bit different

I use an unmarked optech neoprene strap - it's more comfortable and I don't see the need to be an advert for Canon.

Grumpybadger living up to his name! :D

Cheers Joe! Actually there is a serious point that if I am out seriously taking pictures I want to concentrate on that and getting the images I want. If I am in that frame of mind, I don't enjoy being disturbed. I actually had a grumbly thread on here last year about someone being ignored and it turned out I was the ignorant photographer who committed such a crime - but I was there in rapidly changing light to get photographs, not to have a chat.

Anyway, on that note, anyone want to trade a 1DIV strap for a 500D??? :gag:
