Driving up the M6 today when my truck started vibrating so I took it to the garage where they removed the diff inspection plate

The mechanic put his hand and pulled out chunks of metal

Oo that's not good is it

So I've been pricing up a new axle

Conveniently iveco parts are open 24/7 , unfortunately employing people to work nights is expensive , they have to be paid a shift allowance which makes axles not as cheap as they could be

£3200 + vat + fitting + vat which adds up to about what the truck is worth

The price to recondition my axle is about £1500 + a lot of labour so I think a truck being pushed off a cliff and a job in B&Q is looking likely

I've got a load of paternoster parts, nothing to drive the truck though... sorry :)

Ouch!

How can an axle be £3840 + fitting?

if the diff is buggered then it'll obviously need replaced too. is this factored in the price with the axle / driveshaft?

might be easier to source part from a local scrappie.

Get a diff from a scrapped vehicle ?

For that sort of money you could just get a 9" and get the right brackets etc welded to it, it'd probably still work out cheaper.

What model of Daily is it?
What's the extent of the damage? most of them can have the diff overhauled without renewing the complete axle case.

Might also be worth getting in touch with Thameside transmissions and Black Diamond and even motorman.

Just checked I only have a VW Transporter Axle behind this sofa and Axl from Guns N Roses behind the other one sorry............

I got decent one at the back end of my Daily :D Wanna swap for an offside front headlight

Just wondering if the transit rear end is the same ,readily available at breakers ...just a thought .

Price does seem excessive though

I've ended up buying a recon one, the price of the parts came to almost the same but it's still going to be £1500 fitted , a bad month is coming up

It's a 35c15 , everything but on eBay , next week there'll be 30 on for £90 each :D

35c with the single rear wheels I take it if the diff bearings have collapsed. Am I to suspect the diff oil wasn't renewed every two years as per the service schedule? ;)

Twin rear wheels and yes it was renewed every 2 years

September 2010 it was rebuilt under warranty at 130,000 miles, didn't last 60,000 this time so it makes me wonder what they changed

I had a really noisy diff on my iveco that i just bought (early 2010) always suspect when you a buy a van with the back full of empty cardboard boxes, i took the whole diff apart and repaired all the bearings, iveco are good and will give you free printouts of the diff blown up which was a help, thing the bearings where about £90 and £110 plus vat and now is fine. Hardest job was undoing the bolts on the propshaft!
