This is my first 'proper' lens for my Sony A200 and I'm a little concerned about the stiffness of the zoom. When zoomed out to 24mm it is very stiff to start zooming back in. After about 30mm its fine, it's just hard to get started from the wide end.

I've seen mention of this on some web sites, but want to check if its 'normal', as I've bought it on Ebay and could possibly return it if its faulty.

Other than that, and the wieght, it seems to be a very nice lens - especially after the kit lens.

Thanks for your advice

Yep, I have one for a Canon and it does exactly the same. It's OK once you get used to it and just give it a bit of a twist. It does seem like there is amost a sicky bit of gearing at that end, or that's how it feels.

I've got a Nikon fit one and it's exactly the same, i sent my back to Sigma. I was told it had been serviced and checked, but it came back with the same stiffness, albeit not quite so bad.

I'm hoping mine will free up over time.

Thanks all,

That makes me feel a bit better :-)

The strange thing is, if I tilt the lens upswards, or apply gentle pressure to the extended lens it moves smoothly - strange!
