Anyone bought from Photospecialist recently?

Just a small update! I havnt ordered as of yet but so far so good the communication with them is brilliant just waiting on stock arriving and will place and order
I'm just going to bump this old post to ask the same question - and/or Ben, did you go ahead with these guys in the end?

Ok, thanks Ben.

I don't suppose anyone else reading has had dealings with them? further searches seems to indicate they're pretty established?

Well, that was disappointing.... was in contact with them, they confirmed prices on thursday on email... and by friday morning the price on their website had gone up by £200
Just had a reply now saying "sorry, exchange rate changed".
call me a cynic... but it seems a bit too much like a coincidence considering the price hasn't moved a penny for months :|

:rage:

Amazon do the same thing daily on some items. Best is to just buy when you find something for a good price from a decent dealer.

I was only asking if their 'in stock' item was actually in stock, as I know a lot of these places don't actually have the items until you order and then they'll but it in.

I think it's very naughty to introduce a 'coincidental' price rise the day after I ask about it...
plus, the change of Euro's to Pounds has only changed 0.04 over the last week, which actually equates to 27 extra... not £180.
So I just don't accept the exchange rate answer.

I find it unlikely a retailer would change their price because of a single individuals request.

Maybe. maybe not, depends on the frequency of said item, and the associated cost
I do find it unreasonable to provide a written quote, then adjust the price 2 days later and effectively be told to suck it up.
And like I said, it's not an exchange rate rise, the increase is just too much.

Just bought a gitzo 5542 tripod very good price and company no problems and only took two days to come.

I ordered a Panasonic G7 from them last week, and there are a few minor 'niggles', although no major problems as yet.

The item showed as 'In stock' and the website says it will be sent the same day for in stock items. After calling them it turns out they need to get the camera from one of their shops and it won't ship until Monday (maybe!). I also didn't get an email confirming the order until after I'd phoned them, and my online order info shows no order status.

Something to bear in mind (and I think this is a rather dodgy practice) is that the website shows the price in British Pounds but they say, hidden in the small print somewhere, that they will actually bill you in Euros. The price they show in Pounds is based on the 'normal' exchange rate, but most of us will end up paying several percent more than that (e.g. about 3% for my credit card). They also don't mention, until you get to the payment stage, that there is a 1.5% surcharge for credit cards. In the end I had to pay by Paypal (1% surcharge for this) as my credit card was not accepted, and that seems to have gone through at the 'exchange rate' price with no extra fees.

I'll try and remember to update this when the camera arrives.

Just a quick update. The camera arrived today, all is well. They included a mains plug adapter as the charger power lead is a Euro one, which is a nice touch.

I had a message from UPS about the delivery, with tracking info. My order status on the website is still blank, and I had no contact from Photospecialist about it, but I guess that's OK as the UPS info came in direct.

All in all, I'd consider ordering from them again if the price was right :)
