I was looking at a grip for my 7d then I saw there are third party equivalents at half the price. What's peoples take on these anyone used them and found them to be rubbish or suitable?

I have just ordered a 3rd party grip for my 450D, i will comment when i recieve it, it was a quarter of the price of a Canon BG-E5 so why not :)

I have a third party grip on my D5000 as Nikon don't make one. It was £40 from eBay and doesnt fit brilliantly as I think it's better designed for the D40 but if you found one for the 7D specificly then I can't see a problem. The only thing normally is a difference in quality and material but if that doesn't bother you..

I do remember reading that some third party grips don't complete the weather seal (if the 7'd is weather sealed that is!), worth bearing in mind.

not bothered about the weather seal, what else is there to consider?

Look for Meike branded ones on fleabay, I've had 2 and both are as good as the origional Canon ones.

Similar 40D and 5D2.

I've seen the 5d2 Canon grip and to be honest I couldn't tell them apart except the battery door catch on the Meike one is more positive. As to weather sealing, I would ask what weather sealing.
None of the grips I've ever had has anything relating to weather sealing and I've had a number of Canon ones for othr bodies ?

I had one for my 500d and then got one for the 550d
Can't fault them at the price tbh

Have been using a phottix one for 2 years now. Never had a single issue. Only gripe is that the wheel is quite loose compared to the one on the camera, so gets knocked easily.

3rd party grips on all my cameras - [PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER] to paying what canon want especially for a 5D2 grip

I got an Ansmann grip for my 50D, it was cheaper than the Canon one by a long margin and instead of having to put batteries in the grip it has a built in rechargeable one instead, which lasts AGES. I can also charge it in the 12v socket of the car. Excellent.

My 400D came with a Travor grip. Works a treat. A bit heavy for walkabout for my liking, but when taking portrait shots of the kids at home it is so much more comfortable.

I bought a Hanel one for my D70s a few years ago, I have found that carrying a fully charged spare battery is a much better option for me. So in no great rush to purchase one and add a whole lot of of unwanted weight to my D300.

The Hanel did it's job well enough, and did make the D70s look very cool!:lol:

MeiKe from Link Delight off ebay for me and my 550D, had it about 2 weeks its great, it also came with 2 battries, a tray to use pencil batteries and an Aputure cable release £49.99
I also asked the same question on here before I bought

Bargin

For peice of mind, seach for "problem with 3rd party xxxD battery grip" ( I googled) try and find faults to expect before you buy...if you can ;0)

On 'Amazon', 'Happy Sales UK', based in Wales, £69.95 including postage, I have had no probs using it on my 7D,
Jim

have a look at the link delight ones on ebay, theres a few reckoning they come out of the same factory as the Nikon ones! have ordered one for my D90, will compare it with my D200 one on my Fuji and post the results......

Here's the Linkdelight website address. My 4 purchases direct from them have gone without a hitch. Their grip for the D300 is solid and tight. I might also recommend the glass LCD screen covers which fit very well.

ordered the meike one off ebay, half the price of the canon one. thanks all
