Anyone considering a sandybridge upgrade?

Yes
My desktop with its E6750 and 4gb of ram is starting to show a little age (and I want to upgrade! ;))- anyone gone sandybridge yet? How much faster would I expect a 2500 and 8gb of RAM to be? No overclocking, those days are behind me now...

I might go for a mobo, cpu and memory upgrade then. Get a new gfx card at a later date.

Thanks will get a 2500 but any ideas on a mobo? I think a H67 should suffice as I have no o/c palns.

Oh yes... got my beady eyes on a i7-2600k with one or two SSDs ;) Not sure whether to go 8G or 16G though :D

I've been building a Sandybridge system today. 2500K 8gb ram 120gb OCZ SSD all on a MSI P67a-GD65 motherboard. Comparing it to my old E8200 this thing flies.

Boot time (after bios) is quick and once W7 is up it's ready to use. Programs are snappy and no having to wait. The only issue I've had is with the supplied MSI driver/utilities disc. System just would not read it and would hang the system. Had to download the drivers.

UEFI bios looks good but is a little sluggish. This hopefully will be sorted with future updates.

If your thinking of an upgrade then Sandybridge is a no brainer (IMO)

Thanks for that. I will continue to look for more info about the non-overclocking parts. I have no need spend the extra money on a k CPU and the p67 mobos.

What graphics do you have at the minute?

BTW No I haven't considered a sandy bridge upgrade :D

I have to say, for the little extra (£60), I'd go for the 2600 (not 2600k which is unlocked) as you get another 4 sets of registers via the hyperthreading (thus turning it into effectively an 8 core CPU), extra 2M cache and a slight bump on frequency.

8800 gts 640mb. It needs an upgrade for my infrequent gaming but can probably wait!

You might be right. I am going to wait a month or so for prices to even out anyway.

Having spent most of today googling... I'm not so sure. I want an i7, but the i5 is only 10% behind. A slight overclock and I have the same performance at £60 less... hmmmm
