Seen the IPR in their T's & C's?

Not sure about that bit???

whats wrong with that t&c? It basically says all it needs to say for them to operate their website and to keep backup's of it...

Giving our work away ....sounds errrrrr ......I think I will pass on this one

It's not that bad. At worst it's letting them use a photo you've put on thier website to promote thier website. there's worse rights grabe out there than this.

But that says they could use your work worldwide in adverts (for their site) which could generate high membership allowing the possibility of advertising revenue when the site becomes bigger.

The T's & C's may also change at any time without prior notice.

so you could sign up to one thing and then find another.

Erm... where does it say that? It says for the purpose of operating the website. nothing about adverts...

I think you'll find an awful lot of websites have similar t&c. And yes, of course they can change the t&c but then so do a lot of other sites, to much unwelcome publicity if I remember Google correctly.

Bottom line is surely to not host your images on their server. Do as i do - use your own server and post a link.

Out of interest has anyone checked TP's t&c for a similar clause?

It doesn't, but, it doesn't say they can't either, and they can amend them to allow them to do whatever they like

I do.

TP
Talk Photography respects all copyright law. Any images displayed remain the copyright of the owner at all times.

Doesn't personally have any bearing on me just posting so people are aware.

the way it is worded, i would guess it is to cover them for backing up files and, like TP, show your gallery on the random pics part of the front page etc... wouldnt be too worried myself

You're not posting the full and relevant info from TP's t&c's:

We (The Site Administrators) may modify these Terms and Conditions at any time.

By posting on talkphotography.co.uk, you grant Talk Photography and/or its agents irrevokable permission to store, reproduce, backup or re-present in public, in any location or via any media, and/or modify (for editorial purposes only) that content.

as I said in my first post, I see nothing wrong in their t&c's. If they change their t&c's you stop using them eh?

OK Missed that bit as trying to work and post simultaneously.:) At leat the TP site states that it's for editorial purposes only.

As I said doesn't really bother me as I don't post any commercial work and I use other servers.

The other servers bit doesn't really matter, it says posting not uploading.

I think you'll find that's only in respect of the modifying of content. If anything, the TP clause is more "grabbing" than the one you quoted from the other site because it explicitly mentions "any" media. That could be print. The other site specifically states for the purpose of operating their website...

anyway, not to worry. Those who worry needlessly about the t&c will steer clear of that, this, and any other site with a similar or worse t&c I guess.
