Anyone gone D300 to D3s

been humming and haring about upgrading my current bodys to D3s, i shoot motorsport 99 percent of the time and take around 8,000-10,000 images a month in all weather as its also my job. My current bodys are now into the 100,000 mark and although the D300 is a very capable body its getting very long in the tooth now so have been thinking the D3s would be a natural upgrade especially as the prices of them seem to be falling like a stone at the moment.

Glass wise i use the 70-200 for pretty much everything but also have a few others such as a 12-24 and a 50mm. So has anyone gone from a D300 to a D3s and how did you feel about it in the real world ?

I had a D300 alongside a D700, I replaced them with a D800 and D3s. With the exception of the loss of crop factor, the D3s blew both the D300 and 700 away in all departments. High iso performance,buffer,fps,autofocus lock in,pretty much everything. The D3s is a superb camera and prices are dropping like mad at the moment.

The only downside for me, and this is a personal thing, was the weight and size if Mrs Frac wanted to use it and the fact that my shoulders are knackered and I needed to downsize.

All in all, they are a superb,well built,well performing camera. Yes they are a bit long in the tooth now,they don`t have built in gadgets, but if you are not going to use them, then buy a D3s.
 
Thanks, weight no an issue as used to the d300 with a grip and 70-200. Not fussed with gadgets just after a very good body that performs better than the 300

Fill your boots then, D3s murders the 300.
 
Same as Ade I had a D300 along side 2x D700 and switched to a D3 & D800 ( Not D3s ) The Difference from going from the D300 to a D3 was massive to say the least, fps, buffer and ISO performance was a massive leap along with the how the body feels in your hands is brill, will be even more massive if you go for the D3s specially with ISO and buffer, I have been thinking about it recently myself changing my D3 upto a D3s for Sport and Wildlife Photography recently but can't justify the Price as the D800 is killing the D3 for wildlife simply due to the 36mp sensor, the cropability is simply amazing

haha spanner in the works, a good friend of mine has just offered me a pristine D4 at a very discounted price. More than i really wanted to spend but a very cheap price for a low millege mint D4 still under warrenty and fully serviced by nikon. might have to grovel to the mrs lol
