Anyone got a Nissin Di622?

I recently bought a Nissin Di622 and it's in pretty good nick.

It appears to work OK in terms of firing off the on camera flash with my 40D but absolutely wipes everything out in terms of power!

I've tried reducing the power as per the back buttons but it appears to make little difference.

If it's on camera I seem to get better results.

If anyone has one, perhaps they could walk me through their set up and how it works for them :)

I have got 4 and I have never had any real success with optical triggering. I have modified all mine to use radio triggers and they work really well with the radio triggers, easy to control and consistent.

Thanks. Sounds like they're not an ideal option then.

Maybe I need to consider selling it and looking at the Yongnu's
 
The wife has one but I've never tried it as an off camera flash. I've got the Di866 which I use and that seems to work well off camera (not used it off cam for a while now though) and I've got a Canon 580EX II which gets used most of the time. I use a 60D and a 5D3 which both have wireless triggering so I don't do much optical triggering at all now.
I'll see if I can set up the wifes tomorrow and see how it goes, if I get any joy I'll let you know.
 
Just been having a play about with the flash and the 550D (no wireless setup) and managed to get a little bit of sucess with reducing the power manually and using an optical trigger to fire it. I used a little cube that sits on a tripod with a hotshoe on top and is light sensitive but you need the on camera flash to trigger it and it really isn't that reliable. It works much better with the Di866 rather than the Di622 for some reason though, it's not too reliable on the Di622 and only triggered about 65% of the time.

The best way I found was to use a TTL extension cable I bought recently off ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200734188536?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 to trigger it. It works every time with that and you can adjust the amount of flash you want by using the camera instead of the flash itself.
 
The di622 had a poor optical trigger i believe. I am sure i read somewhere that the optical trigger was changed for the mark 2 to sort out the problems. Get yourself an rf602 trigger receiver set and use in manual mode that should sort it out :) Good luck!

Thanks, I'll take a look at them :)

Its not that it doesn't trigger, it's just that it just wipes everything out on the image regardless of the power setting I use :-/
