I'm considering these or skyports or maybe pocket wizards (but most costly) and wondered:

A) Anyone use the T2D - seems to have some reasonable reviews...?

B) Anyone who has used the T2D know if the reciever is compatible with the original Canon Speedlight 580EX MkI (not the MkII)? Have searched all over...

I'm looking for a reliable off-camera flash triggering solution with radio triggering and ability to fire 580EX MkI and also 430EX MkI...

Thanks,

Chris

I bought the transmitter and receiver kit from Bristol Cameras just before Christmas. I had the receiver hooked up to my SB900 via PC terminal and it seemed to work well - certainly more reliably than the poverty wizards I'd been using before. After a short while, I discovered that the pair were only working properly via IR. It didn't need direct line of sight, but there had to be some route for the IR signal to bounce around otherwise it wouldn't trigger the flash.

So, I've sent the kit back and am waiting on a replacement.

I've not used it with the Canon flashes, but your 580EX has a PC terminal doesn't it? So, should be okay. Not sure about the 430EX. I do recall experiencing misfires with my 430EX and poverty wizards.

One possible solution to consider is to fire your 580EX wireless using the Twinlink kit and then use an optical slave unit to fire the 430EX. This is what I've been doing with the SB900 and the built-in slave of an SB26. You might even want to consider buying a used SB26 for the same purpose.

I've not used Seculine. The main thing seems to be that they are both optical and radio, though I'm not sure why you would need both.

A lot of people are now using Yongnuo RF-602 radio triggers, including me (not to be confused with other Poverty Wizards). I use them to fire both my 580EX guns and Elinchrom studio lights. They work fine, and are very neat, so much so that I've just sold my Pocket Wizards.

They are pretty cheap. Flash In The Pan sells them off here for £28 a set, see post #2 http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=157807

The 580 does not have a PC terminal. You can buy a shoe mount one from Flash In The Pan on here or from Flash Zebra for just a few quid. You connect the flash to the receiver and trigger it. Flash will lose ETTL though.

I use the Skyports. They are quality and way cheaper than pocket wizards!
