Anyone have a Nikon P7100

I have a Fuji X10 but for a number of reasons, very specific to my needs, I am finding problems using it with one hand - the other hand uses a walking stick. So I have identified the Nikon P7100 as a possible replacement.

I know the Canon G12 is similar but I fancy the little extra zoom with the Nikon 7.1x versus 5x for the G12. I also fancy having a tilting LCD.

But despite my needs I am impressed with my X10 and its f2 - f2.8 at maximum zoom lens which means good shots inside without using the flash.

So would the P7100 be a match, or nearly a match, or better, or what. I could use some help please :help:

Thanks so much for your suggestion but being a man I have a problem being seen with a 'stick' & I also have use a wheelchair for more than 100 yards so tend to be very sensitive to anything that makes me look even more of a crock. Men can't deal with these things :)

Thanks again though

I currently have both, though I'm about to put the Nikon up on classifieds.

For me the image quality from the two is very similar, though the dynamic range using the X10 does tend to trump the Nikon in photos where that's important, albeit at the expense of a reduced image size.

The Nikon is a slightly bulkier camera than the X10 which makes it easier to hold, but a little less convenient for slipping in a pocket. I do value the integral lens cover though as I'm forever losing the one on the Fuji.

The articulating LCD on the Nikon is a real advantage and allows a lot more creative opportunity for trying the camera in different conditions.

For me though the bit where the X10 beat the Nikon is in trying to photograph my young toddler. He runs round so fast I always found the automatic settings were favouring a slower shutter speed than I needed and by the time I'd changed to the right settings I'd missed the opportunity.

Let me know what sort of photos you take and I'll see if I've got any examples if you want them emailing over.

Hi Matt

Thanks very much for your help.

Shots I take are landscapes, seasides, buildings, flowers low down and close ups hence usefulness of tilting LCD. Never anything moving or people!!!

I (only now and again) miss a bit more zoom than the X10 gives but feel its extra digital zoom is fine to my (none) pixel peeping eyes. Is the Nikon's digital zoom usable?

I will PM my email address and if you have any examples that would be excellent.

Also give me a shout when you put your Nikon up for sale.

Thanks Phil

It looks like a nice camera but again taking lens cap off/on and no tilting or articulating LCD but really good 1.8 f lens.

You could take a look at the Samsung EX1. Fantastic Schneider Kreuznach f1.8 lens, excellent image quality, articulating rear screen which is of very high quality.

I have one and rate it very highly for the money. Have a look at the Samsung forum section on DPReview and you will see loads of posts from very satisfied owners and plenty of great examples of the cameras output.

Thanks Ceebs

I must admit I had never even thought of a Samsung and so something for me to dig around the dig about later.

Thanks Phil

I am still waiting for my X10 to get from its sensor change.

Also just sold a Panny G2 which my wife was using but she wants something with more zoom. So all in all fed up with looking at reviews and not quite sure of the cameras needed for our household - just the two of us
