Anyone heard anything about the D700 repalcement?

Does anyone have any news on the repalcement for the D700?
I am keen to move from my D90 to full frame, but it seems there is a huge (years) delay in a new FF camera from Nikon and the recent tsumai hasnt helped.
I hear that Canon are about to release the 5D Mk III which widens the gap even more.
The move ove to Canon is so expensive now I cant make the jump, so any news would be great to hear.

What's wrong with the D700?

From what I've seen and heard, it's a superb camera by all accounts.
What is there you could want from a camera that the D700 doesn't excel at?

No point waiting for a new model that could still be a while away while the one you can get now is that good.

Take a look at the thread I posted "what is full frame". I don't think you're going to want anything else other than a D700. I'm currently using the 300 and posted the question about FF, it looks like I'll end up buying a 700. There are a lot of people very pleased with it, it's just my opinion mind, but I would go and have a look:thumbs:

What gap is that, two different tools which I doubt you could compare.

The D700 is a wonderful camera, superb AF system and produces lovely clean images even at ISO6400.

I am told that it does not shoot video, no great loss to me, it may be to you.
 
If like me you do not NEED to upgrade asap then hold on. No point getting a very good camera now when a better one is due out within next 6 months or so, or that the d700 will drop in price (new or 2nd hand).
 
It's a reasonable question. A lot of people delay purchases if they think a new model is imminent, because they prefer to wait for it, or think prices on the older camera will drop, and we do seem to be in the window for a replacement.

I've used the D700 (borrowed from a PJ friend in South Africa) and it was fantastic, but this sort of gear is always going to be a long way beyond my pocket. Pity.
