Yes
Sigma, Canon, Zeiss are the manufacturers that come to mind, but are there any emerging lens manufacturers that I should check out?
 
Canon small lens manufacture!?

There are a few small manual lens manufactures out there. You will not find any that will meter and AF on your canon though. Other than tamron, sigma, tokina.

depends what your looking for in a lens ? there is also lensbaby
 
Samyang seem to be the one to watch. If they ever start to produce AF versions of their lenses, at reasonable prices, the big boys will be watching their backs.

Samyang for sure, the build quality of the 7.5mm Fisheye I had was exceptional.

SLR Magic also appear to be doing ok.

Are Vivitar still part of Voigtlander/Cosina? I know that the 19-35 from Cosina was identical to the Vivitar a few years ago (apart from the badge!)
 
I was going to mention Vivitar, but they're ancient, I think Voigtlander are even older?
 
Optron-Tec? Nobody knows who they actually are, some weird mix of Samsung, Schneider Kreuznach and re-using old Pentax designs.

until you take them apart for whatever reason and see tons of selotape holding everything together :cuckoo: That is from personal experience.

Apart from that they have good glass, but they need to think less 'sticky'
As they do that and add electronics, etc (anyone - focus errors?!) - the price will go up and reputation down (at least initially). Nikon screw mount could be easy, but I shoot Canon so don't care about it.

But if they went Zeiss route they could be on to a winner.

AFAIK Voigtlander has nothing to do with the original company, it's just a name that was bought by Cosina and is now used on their lenses.
