street performer in Lisbon 'levitating'. He certainly had the crowds gathering... any ideas on how it's done?

i was discussing with an american guy how we think he does it... and we reckon we're right... :thinking:
 
The obvious difference between his left and right sleeves, plus the bend on the pole kind of give the game away....
 
Never seen this before and it looks like a step up from the usual street statues, guessing there's a cantilever from the pole and down his clothes to either a footplate or a bike seat under his arse. Am I close??

There's no footplate in this one. When the Indian fakirs do it they have a seat bolted onto the pole. My guess is that this one has some sort of support around the hips. If it were just the arm pole it would be exhausting to stay on it too long.

the magnet thing was what i heard someone suggesting... i envisaged people being dragged across the street and sticking to the base.

yes... me and the american reckon it has to be some sort of framework attached to the pole and bracing around his shoulders and down his back (hence the need for a flowing cloak) and then something to support under his crotch.
His right arm was free to move and he gestured to some people (namely the bustiest, scantily clad tourists) to hold his hand.

Yes but the pole doesnt look strong enough to support his weight.
 
Throwing a 50 euro note at his feet would show how it is done.........
