Yes
I have a Nissin Di622 that I used loads on my D90 with no problems

On the D600 if I have the camera on and try to turn the power on for the flash it won't, until I turn the camera off first. Power on the flash then power on the camera afterwards.

Its a right mess on and want to know if anyone else has found this or is it a fault with either my camera or flash?

Try and update the Nissin firmware.

My flash doesn't have that option, I have done that once before but had to send it away to do it. I think the later models have that option built in

But its a good idea and I will contact Kenro who I used last time to see what they say

I had similar problems with a Di622 MkI when I tried it on a Canon 60D and 650D. It worked perfectly well with a 7D and a 5D MkII but when I put it on the newer bodies it either wouldn't flash or it wouldn't stop flashing and other strange things.

I wanted to try a firmware upgrade but it has to be done at a shop and neither of my local shops could get it done. In the end I sold the Di622 and got a Di866 MkII from the classifieds here and that has worked perfectly with all my bodies, plus it has a USB connector to update the firmware yourself. The Di622 MkII should work with all the current bodies at the moment but you may get the same problem arise in the future.

Thanks, yeah I am thinking I may have to upgrade the flash.....

It's dawned on me that in likely to be in a similar position. I have a Di622 and just ordered a D800 so I would imagine it also may have the same difficulty.

Will be interesting to see... will you post here when you find out.

Hope its not the flash that's faulty. It worked great on the D90 right up until the D90 went

Might be a good idea if you both email the local camera shops and see if any can do the firmware update on your Di622's. With the upgrade I think it should be compatible with the latest bodies. I tried Jessops and London Cam Exchange in Lincoln when I was after the update but neither shops were able to do it. Maybe it would have to be sent back to the manufacturers to have it upgraded, but then you have to think how much hassle you want to put up with. A new Di622 MkII can be got for under £100 if you have a good look around.

Yes I will do. I'm coming from a D90 as well so will let you know. I looked on the Nissin site and it says the di622 is compatible with D600 and D800 but I assume that will be post firmware update.

At the moment I mainly use the speed light as a slave off camera but if i have the same issue I will probably sell it on as since Jessops closed there are very few local camera shops and I can't see any of them offering the update.

Yeah we don't have any camera shops now apart from Currys and a local small firm which I doubt would do the firmware update. (two old blokes in a tiny old shop)

Last time I used a company called Kenro and they updated my firmware (to enable it to use wireless triggers) and posted it back in about two days totally free of charge. They would not even let me pay the return postage..

HERE IS THEIR LINK and I have sent them a message to see if they can help

Sorry it took so long to post but after having issues with my first D800 I have only just got round to testing. Nissin Di622 appears to work fine with D800 on camera but I did purchase the flash gun around this time last year so it may have had a later firmware version.

Thank you....

I think I may go for the Nissin Di866 as I feel that is more of an upgrade so it would make me feel better instead of getting the Nissin Di622 Mar 2 and see little difference apart from being compatible... if that makes sense.

I would feel like I replaced like for like if I get the Mark 2 Di622 even though its a great flash

Yeah I would entirely agree. There's nothing better than a new toy so you need to feel your getting something different. :-)

If I was buying again I would go Di866. The Di622 is a superb little flash and mainly I use it as a slave to add a spot of fill in my studio set up but the greater control of the Di822 would be very welcome.

Yeah I loved my Nissin Di622 Mark 1 and sold it to a lad on here but looking forward to getting to grips with the Di866 when I get it.

It was weird according to Nissin (I contacted them) they said the Di622 (mark 1) was NOT compatible even with a firmware update to the Nikon D600. But I actually got it to work by switching the camera off before switching on the flash then switching the flash back on. But it was a real pain at something like a wedding

The Di866 is a beast of a flash. I love that it's got a small fill in flash for when you're bouncing the main flash. Makes things so much easier if you're taking backlit subjects too. It's a powerful flash too, I got good coverage from one side of a concert hall to the other when shooting a band and I was using a Tamron 28-300 VC lens, which is quite a slow lens. I'm sure you'll be blown away by it, I still go for it instead of my Canon 580EX II most of the time cause it's so easy to use.
