I'm currently shooting studio sessions with my 50mm f/1.8 and it's a right pain in the tush as it renders the blown out background with a blue tint to it that I am having to sort out in processing.

My plan is eventually to be shooting weddings, and as such I have a listing of all the equipment that I want to get before I do. On that list is the 85mm f/1.4 and the 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-D. I was thinking about getting the 85mm first if it was a significant improvement over my 50mm f/1.8 in the studio results but have heard reports that it doesn't handle high-key studio shooting too well. It was in searching for info about this that I stumbled across the 105mm f/2 DC. I know Zack Arias really rates his for studio work and I was just wondering if anyone else uses one or has any experience of one?

If it is a fantastic studio lens then I would most likely kick the 85mm f/1.4 off the list for now and replace it with the 105mm.

Do you have a link to this info as i'll soon be shooting high key stuff in my studio with my 85mm f1.4. ;)

It was actually chatting with Edinburgh Gary, he reckoned it was complete pants. I then read something similar elsewhere but can't for the life of me remember where.

Got a friend who has offered to lend me an 85mm f/1.4 for a couple of weeks next month (thanks Hugh!) so when I get that I will be doing some test shots. Wont buy anything until after that.

I've not got any experience of the 105/2 in the studion, since i've not done any studio work yet. however, everywher else, I think it's a magnificent lens, even if you find you don't use the DC feature much (but sometimes it's nice to have it). Bokeh is great, and the transition to OOF is usually very pleasing.

My 85mm f1.4 **** its contrast right out the pooper when I last used in the studio. I think it may be as simple as putting a large card hood on it though in terms of a fix. I think it might have been MEGA flair causing my issues. Compared to the 24 to 70 (nikon), it was useless.

Gary.
