Anyone Use Kenko Converters

For the vast majority of my work the long end of my 70-300 zoom is adequate for what I want but I did find doing some cricket last season that it was a bit short,I am therefore thinking of getting a Kenko 2x converter to use with my 70-200 f2.8.
Wondered if anybody had used one and what their opinions of them were
 
Don't forget that using these teleconverters on a lens will reduce the maximum f no available.

The 1.4x will reduce the light by 1 stop and the 2x by 2 stops so a 2.8 lens will become the equivalent of an f4 or a 5.6 lens.

I've got a Kenko Pro300 DGX 1.4x TC and it's excellent. It works with all my lenses and will even retain AF on my Canon 100-400 4.5-5.6 IS L on both my 7D and 5D2. Great IQ when using it on my 70-200 2.8 IS L (which is what I'd planned to use it on) and the AF is still quick despite the loss of the stop of light. The only lens it doesn't AF with is my Sigma 150-500 OS which is f6.3 at 500 before the TC goes on it.
 
Has anyone tried the Kenko converters on the EF70-300mm F4-5.6 L IS USM? Rumour has it that it works but I don't know anyone who's tried it or has one. :shrug:
 
The Kenko Pro-300 series don't have a protruding front element so in my experience every EF lens will fit - at least every one I've tried... (EF-S won't though - since the rear of the EF-S lenses protrudes too far even for the Kenko Pro-300)

If the 1.4 works on the 100-400 I don't see why it wouldnt? Not used the 70-300L though so don't know for sure!

This is interesting as I thought I couldn`t add a TC to my 7D and 100-400mm. Are you happy with the IQ? :)

Thanks for all the feedback folks I am definitely getting one of these for my Tamron 70-200 f2.8 and by the sounds of it maybe it will work on the Canon 70-300 is USM,nearly 1000 mm for cricket would be awesome although it would need a bright sunny day at f11
 
Nigel, I have both the 1.4 and the 2.0 and i can confirm they both fit on a 70-300 IS but you will lose autofocus and the results are not that great.

Edit..ignore the above, I mistakenly thought the question was about the 70-300 non IS.

On 17/2, in response to my question, "What 1.4x TC are you using on the 70-300L as Canon TC's don't fit?", WilliamC posted the following,

"The Kenko Pro300 DGX 1.4x, it fits and it works but you do need high contrast conditions for the AF to work properly. Anything a bit dull, shady and bland and it struggles a bit. Bright sunshine plus good contrast and it's tickettyboo."

The IQ does take a bit of a hit with the TC but it's not bad enough to put me off using it. It also slows the AF a bit but again, not enough to stop me using it. The positives far outweigh the negatives.

According to the compatability list for the 1.4x TC it should retain AF the same as it does with the 100-400 and it recommends manual focus for the 2x TC (whether AF will work at all I don't know).
 
I have the Tamron 70-200 and both the Pro 300 DGX 1.4x and Pro 300 DG 2x TC's.

The 1.4x works a treat and has little to no IQ loss and I haven't noticed any effects on the AF speed.

The 2x works less well, but in good light the IQ is acceptable for me, but I tend not to use it much.
