Anyone use the Benro C4770TN Tripod?

I recently bought the Benro C4770TN tripod and found it to be really good to use, very stable when using long lenses. "BUT"

There's always a "but" isn't there, when I carry the tripod with the legs over my shoulder, the weight hook on the underside of the mounting plate digs in my shoulder. The weight hook is made from round metal rod and projects a fair way below the mounting plate.

I just wondered if anyone on TP has this tripod and tried to remove the weight hook at all.

Doesn't look very difficult. Can't see exactly what's what under there from the pic. It might simply unscrew, might need local heat if it's Loctite'd in, or last resort would simply be a hacksaw. Easy job for a mate with a bit of mechanical knowledge and basic tools.

I think the hacksaw sounds the best idea as I'm not sure what holds the bolt on that fastens the gimbal head. I did try "gently" with a spanner to see if the nut would move but it seems to have had a fair bit of Loctite added when the tripod was assembled.

Loctite releases it's grip quickly with a bit of heat. A mini blow-torch is ideal, one of those really tiny jobbies, or something larger if you can shield the surrounding area so as not to roast everything. On the other hand, if there's nothing like a rubber gasket or anything on the top plate, don't worry too much about that or even stick the whole thing in the oven! Be careful though, I'm flying blind here and you need some knowledge and a bit of confidence for this kind of thing. At your own risk!

Be careful with a hacksaw too. Get it properly secured in a vice and avoid any forces that might do other damage.

Edit: thinking about it, there is quite likely some Loctite in there and you'd need to replace. You don't want anything working loose or the whole rig could come tumbling down :eek:
