Anyone use the Sigma 17-70 for Macro?

Is it any good? I have only ever used the Sigma 105 macro and now i have bought the Sigma 17-70 as a general purpose lens i noticed it can give 1-2 macro. The 105 is no longer with me so i was wondering if the 17-70 is good for this purpose.

i used to have the 17-70,and did occasionally use it for "close up" shots WHEN i didn't have my sigma 105 macro lens on me,and the results were okay,but nowhere near what you'd get with a macro dedicated lens.it would focus unbelieveably close though.unfortunately,all the images[close ups]i took with it i lost when my hard drive died..as i hadn't backed them up :bonk:

I miss my Sigma 105 macro as when i was bored at home i just popped out into the garden and found something to photograph. I have just bought the 17-70 as i needed a lens to use indoors with my studio lights and as my room was so small i needed the shorter end. I might give it a bash tomorrow in the garden and see how it fares.
