In 20 years of owning PCs I have never installed an anti virus product and have no intention of ever installing one as they can be quite annoying (we have them installed on work pcs). Not yet been bothered by any viruses.

I don't use many Microsoft products but I do use Microsoft Security Essentials and thoroughly recommend it. I have used it for about a year now on my desktop & laptop.
I have used many anti virus & malware progs in the past but MSE does both and does it well.

ive used it before. its pretty good, it used to be antigen before MS bought them out and that was always a pretty decent product.

i recently put a proposal in to replace sophos at work with MS but unfortunately was rejected on cost.

annoying how? avast in silent mode = no hassle at all and uses about 3mb of ram.

anyway, how do you know you dont have any malware without a scanner ;)

Me too, highly recommended. MSE integrates properly with Windows and doesn't slow things down.

MSE is very resource light and has a small memory footprint. I installed it and doubted it would be as good as a commercial product. That was a year ago and I am still running it, nuff said ? (Make sure you disable Windows Defender if you do run it though, its no longer required)

BTW Boliston, Download Avira and Spybot (both free) install them, run them, and then uninstall afterwards. If they find nothing I will eat my hat and I am completely bald I cannot afford to eat my hat !! My hunch is your in for a surprise. Your info and other stuff on your PC could be getting leaked all over the place like a rusty bucket.

You could be right though because I know someone who has never worn a seatbelt and to this day they have never been hurled through there windcreen and been horribly injured so it just shows what a waste of time wearing one is. :shake:

Use MSE with Windows Firewall switched on - and you don't need anything else.

(Windows Defender off - as mentioned above)

MSE working fine for the last few weeks on Win 7 Ultimate..........

.........but useless on XP 64bit, as not supported!

 Windows or Widow's  :p :coat: :exit:

I use it with no probs.....
