Anyone used a Godox PB820S power supply? Or Quantum?

I haven't used those ones but battery packs in general are really good and handy that you can recharge them. I use the Nissin ones that warehouse express sell and are similar, slightly more expensive but only a little.
 
I've got the godox one, although I went for the muted black rather than green. Works brilliantly with a 580Ex2. cuts down the recharge time, seems to last for ages.. Has a belt clip if you're on walk about or I just attach it to the lighting stand with a elasticated strap. Comes with mains and car charger for it.

You do need to set the flash to use it.

C.Fn-12: If an external power source is used, the flash recycling is powered concurrently by the internal batteries and external power source. In this case, when the internal batteries become exhausted first, shooting might not be possible. If 1 is set, the flash recycling will be powered only by the external power source. The internal batteries will thereby last longer. Note that even if you set it to 1, the Speedlite will still require internal batteries for flash control.
Setting C.Fn-12 to 1 uses the internal cells only for display and control circuits, and uses only the externals to charge the capacitors
Setting C.Fn-12 to 0 uses both sets of batteries so very fast recharge time, but the internals will die quicker/quickly

I think mine is set to 1 all the time. When you set CF12-1 and not have the external pack, the flash would still be powered by the internal battery. When you plug the external pack, it automatically draws the power from the external source.

Thanks for the great tip! Does it forget this setting when you change batteries in the 580EXII? I know it forgets it was on HSS usually and I constantly get the first shot after new batteries massively overexposed as the camera jumps to Flash sync speed!

Hum - dunno cant remember, been a while since I used it. - hang on and I'll check.

DOH - Of course if youve a camera with control (i.e. my 5D mk3) you can set custom controls for the flash within the camera :) MUch easier
