Hi,

I just won a competition with one of my images, and one of the prizes is an olympus camera. I haven't got it yet, but it looks to be the SZ10.

I looked at the reviews on Google, but have not yet found any CUSTOMER reviews...they all seem to be the marketing blurb. The camera was launched in Feb 2011, and all the reviews I have found thus far date from then, or before.

I am interested to find out what people think of the camera, from the point of view of a dSLR user, perhaps. I have a Canon 400d, and a few old lenses...is the Olympus going to find a niche in my kit?

Any actual user experiences are welcome.

Cheers

Shots look pretty damn good to me. As an old time Olympus user I love the quality of the Zuiko lenses.

I was looking at the Olympus XZ1 but got the Canon S95 instead as a 'stick it in your pocket' camera. I love it and sometimes forget to take the DSLR out.

My guess is you may have to limit yourself or you could just find yourself using it instead of your DSLR depending on your type of photography;)

I think in good light situations you can get pretty decent results...the problem with those types of cameras comes when the night falls..;)

I tried a few lower light situations...not downloaded of the camera yet...working on it. :)

Yes, I can see certain situations where it's a nice thing to carry...it fit in my trousers knee pocket, for one. :)
Just have to get used to using it, and it's limitations in comparison to the dSLR. :)

They look pretty good...coincidentally I've just won an Oly SZ-30MR in a competition too which is pretty similar. My initial impressions are:

Nice sharp images in good light but small aperture at long end which will mean Iso needs to be pretty high - noise @ 800 is not too bad but wouldn't go above that.

Shadow adjustment setting - bloody awful, blurs images - turn it off!!

Stabilisation is ok but it can only do so much

I think the SZ series look pretty decent, don't think they are as good as the Pansononic TZ's but should be a decent "take everywhere" camera for holidays etc

Hi simon,

Yes, that sounds about right. The limits of a small aperture range and a tiny sensor are apparent. I didn't use the the shadow thing. The presets are ok, but not much more than gimicks, really.

Still pondering whether to sell or keep it. :)
