Not me, but looks like a nice idea, but wouldn't it be a lot easier, and cheaper, yet function much the same if you make your own?

Yeah I was considering that but thought for a tenner its not to expensive and would more professional than something made from a cornflakes pack or something :D

I guess if you just want it to look professional (rather than DIY), then it's worth a shot, you could always try it, and return it under DSR if you aren't happy ;)

Like you said, for a tenner, it's not going to break the bank.
 
I remember on a forum I used to go on, hateful place, a guy wanted a petal lens hood for his new canon that he'd bought. Why? Was it because it was a wide angle lens and any hood was better than none? No. He wanted a petal hood because it made his camera look good.

Yes, we all need to buy kit, not because it works, but because it looks good :)
 
I tend to use the Gary Fong lightsphere if I need to get good all round bounce and the built in one doesn't cut it.

Not cheap. But it helped me shoot a night do in a country hall with stupidly high ceilings.

That's not the same thing, its a catch light reflector that redirects a small amount of flash to give nice catch lights in your subjects eyes.
 
I used to use the Lumiquest version all the time on my Metz 45CT5 for photographing weddings.

It gives a larger source than the head of the flashgun and directs the light at the subject, you do not have to worry about bouncing off a high or coloured surface. Whist still being directional is softer than the direct light from the flash head. The bigger the surface the softer the light.

It is not the same as a lightspere or stofen type difusser as they are designed to give a soft alround light which will then bounce off other surfaces.

Yeah well to be honest I am the first to usually make stuff, I did make a diffuser out of a milk carton but was always a bit embarrassed to use it :D

All that Opteka stuff is Lumiquest copies, and no bad thing for that.

The one in question looks very like the LQ Pocket Bouncer linked above, but the one I usually recommend is the LQ Quik Bounce http://www.lumiquest.com/products/quik-bounce.htm which is rather a different animal with the little flaps for bouncing. It is far more versatile because of that, but also four times the cost at £40. Brilliant invention IMHO, best flash accessory by far, worth every penny :thumbs:

These simple reflector type things work very well, as Ed says, because they make the light source bigger. They're good at close-ish range, couples and small groups etc, but at greater range the light source area becomes relatively smaller and they don't do much. Same applies to the Fong etc too of course, but unlike the Fongs, the Lumiquest/Optekas are much less wasteful of precious light when used outside, because nothing is blasted out of the top and back into nowhere. Another very useful feature is that they fold away flat :)
