Anyone used Sugru to make a new grip?

Figure this is probably the most chance of getting a response.

Got a decent deal on a Minolta 600Si classic as the grip had crumbled and mostly fallen off.

A new ‘spares’ camera would be double what I paid for this one (which all appears to work) so seems pointless.

I’ve bought some Sugru to make a grip and done the first layer. But need to finish it of and would like it to be nice and smooth.

Anyone done this and got any tips?

3D printing a replacement is another idea. I've seen a few older cameras sporting what looks like turned wood grips.

It is an annoying problem with some cameras. No idea why some crumble to dust and others are fine.
