anyone uses m42 lens on their Nikon?

I'm really into manual focus these days after my dad gave me his Nikkormat FT2 35mm camera and i use some of his lens on my D7000. Now got me thinking about buying M42 lens with adapter to use these nice vintage lens on my D7000.

My question is how many of us nikon user actually use M42 lens? Read some stuff about Nikon suffer the most from using M42 lens with adapter because the infinity focus. Without the glass on the adapter i suffer from infinity focus, with the glass in the adapter it effects optic and IQ ofthe lens .........

I'm really want to use one of those m42 135mm f2.8 prime on my nikon, but if focus and optic will suffer i guess i just have to wait and try buy one of those AI nikon 135mm then ......
 
Get an AI one. Good glass will always hold its value, so if you don't get on with it you could sell it at little loss. Quality old camera equipment seems to be only going up in price anyway...
 
was thinking about that too, but those M42 lens is attractive :)

I still hang fire on any purchase atm, i've been offer a vivitar 135mm f2.8 komine made for around £50, but I've yet visit 3 of my local stores that sell second hand and vintage gear so i will check them out first before any purchase.
 
This has been covered a few times...in general it's a bad idea to use M42 lenses on Nikon bodies. The glass element in the adapter will lower image quality (particularly at the edges) and the glass will also act as a mild teleconverter, slowing the lens.

£50.00 is also way too expensive for that lens, you could get a much better Nikkor 135mm for that :)
 
i think you sold me on buying the Nikon AI lens. I was all over excited on the M42 lens because my friend uses them on his Panasonic GH1 but i guess that is different story ......

found some decent 135mm f2.8 AI and 200 f4 AI for around £100. So maybe is a good buy. i know i want the 85mm samyang so maybe the 135 and 200 nikon ai is decent :)
 
I think it might be better to hone down what focal length you want, and then explore your options from there. Old glass is tempting, but it's like any other equipment considerations - what hole are you trying to fill?
 
the 135 f3.5 is good, read some top notch review about it. I have to visit the camera shop this week to see what is available. 135mm is on my hit list unless i see a good deal on a nikon 85mm AI lens that can praise me away from getting a samyang.
