I use a Sigma 150-500 OS on a D700 and am happy with the results although at 500mm it tends to be a bit soft wide open - stop down to f/11 (bump the ISO up if you need extra speed - the D700 can take it!) or so to sharpen it up a bit.
thanks for the advice, I've had a bit of a rethink and decided that I'd be better off spending the money on swapping my Sigma 24-70 for the Nikon 24/28-70 instead (as it would get more use) and I've just been asked to do a wedding in the summer that I'm very excited about
What Digital Camera had the Sigma 150-500 and Tamron 200-500 in their HeadtoHead. Not only is the Tamron cheaper, but it seemed to outperform the Sigma too.
