LOL - Its a frigging joke!

Im stuck though ..

I have my 430 EXii on my background with a blue diffuser - have wireless flash set to on in camera .. flash shoe up and firing and the 430 is firing also but my background looks white not blue?
 
Is the background overexposed and thus completely blown out to white? Try dialing down the 430 by a stop or more and see what happens.
 
On ETTL it should dial the flash down to give you something about OK, unless you have FEC set very high (like +3) or your exposure is picking up so much ambient light that the flash is incidental. What do you get if you turn the flash off but leave everything else set as is? What are your exposure settings - shutter, aperture, ISO? What are the ambient light conditions where you are - sunlit room? curtains drawn?

Don't know the 7D but on my 50D you can dial the exposure up and down for the flash within the camera custom menus. Have you tried adjusting the exposure down?

What's you're actual lighting setup?

Could you be firing the on board flash? It will flash to transmit the ETTL info, but you should be able to set it not to flash as part of the exposure and only to flash for ETTL.

Without checking I don't think you can turn the onboard flash off entirely, but you can trurn the on board flash power right down (In the menus) until it's effect on the shot is negigible.

Cedric, it does have the option to transmit E-TTL data only- at least that's the theory. Whether there's any residual light left from the onboard is another matter! :D

LOL. I'm not sure tbh.... I haven't really used the remote flash that often.
 
i BELIEVE ive found it lol

everyone said 3rd option but that fired .. 2nd one didnt ?? ill check it out thanks again Andy
 
When using o/c ETTL, even when set up with the on board flash "off", it will emit light as that's how it sends the signal to the remote unit(s) to fire.

Danny you have a lot of very technical kit, you may need to simplify before your head explodes, i feel the tension from here.


no matter what you read on here (very helpfull and informative the gang are) or watch on youtube you need to try it your way,


if the backgrounds blown out/white think about why that could be,


ask yourself some questions

shutter speed/ISO/Exposure/aperture/flash power/distance.?

then distance/height/angles/bounce/defuse.?


try to get the shot you want and don't get caught up in gizmos and gadgets, that 7D menu is like a flight deck.

funnily enough lol the lens thread isnt for me :D

my brother who doesnt use tinterweb is round and were arguing about it :) lol

and i cannot master it until ive sussed it and practised .. for now ive sussed the controls and concept .. it takes weeks to master ;)

That's fine it can take weeks to master, so why are you selling the 430ex stands and soft boxes then ? Are you upgrading

No I bought them with one intention but now have another so want to sell the to free up some cash :)
