right i love my 35mm and have been using it most of the time, until i was out taking this






i had to switch to my kit lens because 35 was a bit to zoomed in.

is there a wider prime that preforms and costs the same or there abouts the same as the 35??? or is there another lens out there that has a smaller mm thats good, i had the Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4 for my sony a few years ago and it gave great results but wondering if i would need less than 17mm.
 
Nikon do a 24mm f/1.8 prime, or maybe a sigma 10-20mm might be more suited. Cant get much wider without going fishy.
 
Sigma do a 20mm f1.8, I have one and it's great. You get a hood and a case with it.
 
Nikon don't do a 24mm F/1.8 I'm afraid. They used to make an F/2 version, but it's AI-s. They do however do a 24mm F/2.8D, 24mm F/1.4G, 20mm F/2.8D, 28mm F/2.8D and some other AI lenses of similar length. By most accounts, the 24mm F/2.8 is a nice lens and should be fairly cheap S/H :)

As said also, Sigma do some equivalent focal length primes.
 
ok cheers woodsy, i was thinking about 20mm or less, well if thats the case ill start looking at the 11-16. is that the best way to go????
 
did you try moving your feet? ;)

I was looking for a ultra wide angle 1.4-1.8 but couldn't find anything that really jumped out :(
 
Ultra wide and Ultra bright don't usually go together, sadly. In fact, I'd go as far as saying I don't know of any lenses wider than 20mm, and brighter than F/2.8 currently available from Canon/Nikon. There is of course the 20mm F/1.8 from sigma as the one exception that I know of.

If anyone knows of any lenses that contradict the above, do let us/me know! :D
 
24mm or 28mm will do the trick...

But if you opt for 28mm you'll have to buy 2nd hand: the Nikkor AF-D 28mm f/1.4 is the only one worth having if you need AF (the old manual AI-S 28mm f/2.8 is pretty good, but the AF version was shi'ite).

The 24mm f/2.8 is supposed to be brilliant - very nearly as good as the newer f/1.4 and over £1,000 cheaper...I know which I'd buy.
