Anyone got any clues on this ?? Following various reading around the web, and with a full updated version of Aperture 3, I deleted all, and turned off preview generation. I don't need them and it saved me 50% of the space used by the aperture library, it also seems to make processing images faster. Now though, whenever I run the first import after starting Aperture it takes something like 2 minutes before the import dialog comes up. This is only a problem on the first import, any subsequent imports during the same session run fast.

Any ideas on how to prevent this ? I've not re enabled previews so far.

I think I've resolved it. I installed a couple of sets of aperture presets and it was one of these.

I've been doing some more experimenting... Aperture 3 runs slower with more presets installed/setup. I don't know if this is a memory/cache thing or something else. As I reduced the number of installed presets (lets be honest, I don't use most of them) so Aperture got faster.

I hope someone can find this of use.
