if i wanted to take a photo of two *** one slightly behind the other and blur the background. what sort of setting would i need to keep them both in focus

depends on how close they are to the lens, what focal length are you using on the lens.

try f/11, if that's still not in focus, f/16.

i wish everyone shuts up about the wedding business. ive nocked that on the head at the moment. i need advice on teqniques otherwise how will i learn. PLEASE NO MORE TALK ON THE WEDDING BUSINESS THAT IM NOT DOING NOW...UNLESS YOU ARE ALL SAD. i just need help and advice to get to grips to handle my camera properly.

Maybe you could start by being a bit more gracious when people do try and help you and not get stroppy about it?

It would also help us to help you if you tell us what you do acually know about your camera, and what you learned on the course that you did.

You could also follow the advice you have already been given on your numerous threads and try to help yourself.

Perhaps this might help http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=415416

You were on about your business 2 days ago so how we're we to know you have ditched it?

Have you even looked at your camera instruction manual? Neatly all of the questions you have asked are answered in it.

Do you have an iPhone/iPad? If so there are 2 very good instructional videos that cover the EOS 60D in depth.

There are also a plethora of videos that are available FOC on YouTube.

Wow. That's gonna help isn't it.
Foot meet bullet.

Widest aperture (lowest number).

It helps if the *** you are shooting are closer to the camera and the background is further away.

I don't know what lenses you have but if you have a 18-55 f/3.5 or a 50mm f/1.4 or f/1.8 wack them into the lowest aperture setting on aperture priority (Av) and set up your camera with two objects.

Experiment with moving the nearer object closer to the camera and the further object further away. Use MF when you are experimenting. You will notice how the image changes acording to where you set the focus point.

It will be harder to blur the BG if the subject is close to it and easier when the distance between the subject and BG is greater than the distance between the camera and the subject.

If *** are people then you want to focus on the eyes of either people. If one of them is slightly out of focus then up the aperture very slightly.

If you have a telephoto lens then you will need to set it to a high focal lenth.

Hi Ian, this is a quote from one of your threads::

"Im going into photographing weddings well done the intensive workshop so I now have the skills"

So the intensive workshop didn't cover definition of field and what skills did you learn?

Indeed and judging by the numerous,"how do I?", threads I would certainly be asking for a full refund!
