Apple airport v Netgear routers

I am looking at wireless routers and airports and have a question. I think I am right in thinking they don't contain a modem, so what do people use for the ADSL modem?
What is the advantage having a modem and connecting it to this, over a standard wireless modem router?
I am looking for a new ADSL modem router for work, with the ability to wireless control a HDD. So far I have found a DGN2200 Netgear which does the job, but I have always loved the simple way Apple work. I was just wondering what the market was for the apple, and was trying to work it into my network. It just seems to be 3 times the price of the netgear and offers less.

Apple is more restricted and must be used with a modem to connect to the internet.

You can use the aiport as an addition to a router, but it would be simplest just to buy the netgear and get that to run everything.

I've got 2 airport express which I use connected to speakers (they have a headphone socket to plug in speakers) for listening to music in multiple rooms and for this they are excellent.

The apple device has the apple tax, hence is more expensive.

The netgear stuff is pretty straight forward and shouldn't give you any problems.

As Dale says the absence of a Modem does make the Apple Airport and expensive option. You'd probably need to buy the Netgear Modem/Router anyway. I's suggets you start with that first. I've used both Netgear and Linksys Modem/Routers and found them reliable bits of kit.

The Airports are nice bits of kit, but unless they have functions you need that aren't offered by Netgear I can't see the advantage of them.
