Yes
.. they can swap out a faulty screen on site?

My 27" iMac has developed some weird dark patches on the right side of the screen, looking on google it doesn't seem uncommon, it's not dust or anything, almost like dark cloud like patterns.

It's not on the glass, and reading the various threads on MacRumours etc.. it sounds like a screen replacement or whole unit replacement is the only option.

I called Applecare, and even though they advertise onsite repairs, turns out that they only offer collection, so I've got to lug this monster to either an Apple store, or local authorised repair place.

Anyone successfully got the screen replaced, 'while you wait' ?

Dave.

Sounds like the same kind of thing then, annoying given that I only got this one in August! - Might be worth getting the extended AppleCare for yours Gary just incase it happens again?

At least you're not doing the white background stuff anymore... really shows up then! lol

The hinge on my MacBook Air collapsed last year, and I took it along to the Apple store in Glasgow. They quoted me 5-7 days to repair (they replaced the whole screen) but called later the same day to say it was ready for collection!

Thanks for the replies - How long did yours take John? No repeat of the issue I take it?

I did read his thread... I'm hoping as it's a newer one they give me less grief!

There's a local repair centre near me, I'm going to call them tomorrow as they can do it under AppleCare, see the lead times etc, just going to tell them I think the LCD needs replacing and go from there, if not it'll be a trip to Cambridge on Saturday which is about an hour from me!

3 days. Repaired at a local Apple Premium Reseller - not any of this Genius Nut Bar malarky here. And no sign of a repeat problem.

Mine's got the same problem, just waiting for an extra external drive to arrive so i've got a spare backup before i drop it off to the local Apple Store. Talked to one of the Genius people at the weekend though, and sounded like an easy enough job but definitely a "leave it with us" one. But i just showed him a picture of the screen and he immediately said they'd probably just replace the screen.

Well I've spoken to Modis today (Stevenage based Apple approved service place - lot closer to me than the Apple stores.) - he'd not seen the problem before said it's likely from what I've told him (mentioned the issues you guys have had and other info from google) that he'll have to order in a replacement screen.

First time I can get there is the 17th, I'll let you know the outcome, might be a bit less messing about with these guys, sounds like they'll just swap out the faulty parts!

Dave.

Quick update...

I dropped the iMac off at the local approved repair centre (http://www.modissolutions.co.uk/) at about ten past nine on Monday (17th) received a phone call today (19th) at 2pm that it was ready to pick up!

New LCD fitted under warranty, no questions asked and no grief, very happy :)

Issue has gone, and I'm am back using it now! :D

Thanks for all the replies.

Dave.
