Apple MacBook Pro laptop calibration

I just got a new 17" MacBook Pro to replace my old one.

The old one used the SRGB19894749343, or whatever the numbers are and it used to be fine when viewing the images on a PC at work and printing them out.

However, I used the same ICC colour profile and now when I put images on the Windows PC, they're coming up a lot darker than they are on the MAC. I then re-edited them on the PC and it needed just under +1 exposure to get it roughly how I edited on the MAC, but it still wasn't right.

Any ideas?

I suspect it may be down to monitor calibration.

The new Pro MacBooks use LED backlight for the screens which give a different result to the older screens.

My MacBook Pro is calibrated and matches ( well nearly) my 24".

I suspect the screen brightness differences may be the problem.

What software are you using for image editing?

You might want to look into the gamut that the MacBook Pro 17" is capable of displaying.

Apart from any gamma issues that the LED backlighting might be causing, it's really not an sRGB display in the first place.

I use my 15" MBP for most of my editing these days but I do find that when I transfer images onto my work server, they're darker on the calibrated machines. The other guys with LED screen on their laptops all suffer the same so it's more than likely what Glitch says

What software are you using for image editing?

I'm using Lightroom 2.2 mate!

I downloaded a copy of some freeware calibration software I found a link to on here and I think that's managed to do the trick. I think it begins with S and the icon is a picture of a jacket, if it rings any bells? You needed to edit the reds, blues, greens and contrast, white balance etc.

I haven't tested a edited image from the Mac onto the PC yet, but one of the images I re-edited on the PC comes up pretty much spot on, on the MAC now, so I think they're pretty much equal now.

Yeah, I think so too. I tried reducing the brightness of the screen, but the image lost all of it's colours and great qualities, so I whacked it back up. Hopefully I'll have it all sorted now!
