lol - "Wall Street has called..." Weren't they the muppets that almost bankrupted most of the civilised World a couple of years back?

I'm not sure overtake is a word I would use. In simple terms, Apple are a very successful consumer electronics/software company. Do they have a sever platform? An email server? How about a database? Any collaboration or portal tools? Well, what about an ERP product or CRM application? Development tools, code repository, IM server, systems management software or virtualisation tools? No - they don't have an app for any of that. Hell, they don't even have a games console (unless you share my dim view of some of their earlier macbooks :)). You need to learn to compare Apples with Apples :D

Yay, now us Windows users are the edgy cool ones who don't follow the crowd :D

Never thought of it that way. Think I'll go out and buy a black polo neck seater :)

That's a great summary and really does some it up.
I don't want to start an Apple vs Microsoft argument but if consumers want to be sucked into Steve Jobs 'you will do things my way' attitude, then that's their choice.
I'm not anti Apple, I just don't like how they refuse to be flexible and insist on locking you into their products.
This is why I prefer MS for my choices of OSes and Google Android for the OS on my mobile phone.

It's far too late for Apple to dominate the business sector so their game plan is to push ahead with consumer products.
That's a to risk play and to assume they will remain the market leader is dangerous.

Nokia dominated the market for years but their sales have dropped and people now realise that if they want a decent smart-phone, symbian it too old hat for the task.
Take a look back at the days of Film SLR's, where are the likes of Olympus now in the digital age?

I hope not... that way the hackers and virus writers will start to concentrate on Apple OSX more than Windows...

It really is a daft claim anyway, it's based on betting on the future rather than solid business data. Basing that value on a few consumer products which could, at any time, be outshone by A.N.Other is madness.

That whole atricle just says the company is worth more to the share holders, it clearly states several times that microsft has sold more items, has more income etc, so i think overtaken is hardly the right term

Really???? Whilst I'm not a huge fan of proprietary hardware and locked down software I think you'll find Apple can in fact do most of these.

Who cares really?

Apple market (re-package) a few niche products but they just aren't players at all in the software market, not really a straight comparison.

Apple sell shiny things to people with money.....they currently have the shiniest things but the competition is catching up fast and they soon won't be able to continue shafting their development community over a barrel.....just remains to be seen how well they adapt to a more open market.

Wish the damn prices come down. Then I may start to agree that they have overtaken them.

As stated, it's purely because of share price. MS do have the more stable future and are making more money. If I was going to invest in a company it would be MS.

The market is getting saturated with the iBrand and even some of the fan boys are starting to get more than a little fed up with it.

its really funny how people become so brand defensive.

I don't think there's anyone being brand defensive. I've got a winmo phone and an Ipod touch. As a media device the touch walks all over the phone.

What grips my **** is reporting which is verging on misleading as it only looks at one highly volatile measure in calculating the value of a business.

This was posted on another forum and here's my reply (can't be bothered to write it out so copy 'n paste :p)

It's a little silly comparing revenues from MS and Apple now. Maybe in the past but not now... Apple are an electronics manufacturer with a sideline in software and Microsoft are a software company with a sideline in hardware. I think something stupid like 10% of Apples revenue is actually from macs, which to me means they should be compared to electronics manufactrers like Sony. From a quick google Sony made around $80B a quarter last year (or maybe year, the article doesn't make it clear, still around $5B more than Apple), just shows how small a company Apple still is. Follow on that and look at Laptop sales, Acer dwarfs macbook sales on their own, selling something lik 4x the amount of laptops themselves.

I hope not... that way the hackers and virus writers will start to concentrate on Apple OSX more than Windows...

You'll be fine for a long time yet, most of Apples revenue isn't from mac related products, the vast majority is from iPods.

I say we fight to the death about it.

?

(That result really suprised me considering apple is also a fruit!)

I Like Microsoft..... But on the Other hand.... i like Apple..... But which is best....???

Theres only one way to find out....... FIIIIIIIGGGGHHHT!!!!
