I will be on holiday in New York just before christmas.

I wanted a new laptop and was thinking of getting the an Apple Powerbook 15" .

However, will there be an issues.

Or should I just pay the extra and get it in the UK.
Saving approx £300

My friend has just bough an iPad in the USA and despite the governments attempt to make the pound worthless he still saved (price in USD same as price in GBP). Came with internatonal warrenty and USA apple store sold UK 240v version.
As we are getting shafted from every direction I would say go for it, ditch the box, if you are really paranoid ups the docs back home.

Uk price £1650,
Usa price £1300
 
You might have to replace the PSU, since the US will only be 110v.

The keyboard layout will be different, it won't have a £ button.

The US have a couple less wife channels then us, which might mean you'll have to manually set the channel on your router.
 
Most laptop comes with an power adaptor. So just get the correct plug and it will work. Using a thinkpad from US as well. No problem at all.

Nope. The PSU's are dual voltage, it's just the 3 pin plug that's different, and they can be purchased from Apple idividually or as part of the travel kit.


It seems a slew of earlier posts, including two post of mine were removed, even though I pointed out you'd be responsible for Duty & VAT on returning to the UK.
 
You can get the UK lead and wall duck off ebay for about £12 for both of them.

No £ sign on the keyboard and a small horizontal rectangular return key. Only difference between the US and UK models

Also worth getting Applecare (eBay just under £100), as if it does break Apple will not fix it in the UK, their standard warranty is not International. Applecare is.

You can actually get one from several reputable ebay business sellers for £1300, sealed and 1 year warranty. Shipped from the UK. Then VAT and duty are not your responsibility.
