So here it is again.

Obviously software heavy, don't think they will announce new phone, will instead be all about the cloud.

SHould be interesting to see what happens and what Job's plans are for the "Icloud" I am not sure if software purely in the cloud is going to be a good thing, but surely that won't happen, he must realise that sometimes no internet connection will be a factor.

Please can we keep Mac bashing at a minimum please. I'll try and keep my fanyboyism to a minimum but can't promise anything ;)

My predictions

IOS 5 will be a while before it is out, although there will be a cloud based update for it to start immediately

Lion will be available within 30 days

No new phone

Icloud will be a part of mobile me, would allow Apple to claim that as a success finally if they bundle it in with I cloud.
 
Should be interesting. I personally am interested in the rumours about the levels of twitter integration in iOS 5. Also waiting to see if I need to upgrade to Lion.
 
I think Apple have already said that IOS 5 will be in the announcement, but the Iphone 5 isn't meant to be out until Sept

That's my main concern, it could be all to easy to make this an unusable product to a large section of the country. Even on business when you get internet at hotels it can be of horrible speed, so I am not sure how that side of it will work out.

I can see IOS 5 in combination with lion could stop the need for syncing of iphone though when both on the same network it would feed it through in the background, which would be a nice addition.

Yeah they seem to be announcing what will take place with cloud and IOS 5 being mentioned by them. Not sure if it will lead to a "One more thing" or whether they are setting out their stall in terms of there will be no major hardware announcements and are trying to not get peoples hopes up too high

Countries like Greece get a better internet service than us. Our poor network infrastructure has always annoyed me, Japan gets 100mb/s, and some places in England can barely manage 0.2.
 
I'm looking at getting a MBP pretty soonish, so how long will they take to start shipping them with Lion installed? I presume on the day of release?

Yeah, but apple do have the 30 day thing where if you buy a machine without the software installed and it comes out within 30 days then you get it for the price of postage (£6.95 for iLife I paid).

Obviously the date will be revealed tonight, so you will know when it is going to happen and can plan accordingly.
 
Where's the live kink to this? It's not seeming to be working on the engadget app and I'm not at home yet! :(
 
If the rumours are correct then Lion will dump PPC support so check all your software is Intel.
On my computer Eye One match is still PPC so looks like I'll stay with Snow Leopard, which does the job perfectly.

So around the same price as Snow Leopard for most upgraders, but no material and shipping costs and no competition between retailers.

Not WOW just more profit for Apple.
 
I'm pretty disappointed so far - won't get anything until fall, and where's iPhone 5!

That is for all machines in your home. Agree about no shipping costs etc. but compared to the last Windows 7 upgrade which is currently £120 on Amazon, still unbeatable value. Money in software is never in manufacture of discs, in manufacture of software.

stands to reason the lower cost though, with higher hardware costs and closed hardware compatibility needing less development its always going to cost less than rival OS and hurt apples pockets less by reducing the cost.

Well if they are not going to lets us have a disc, we'll just have to use more hard-drive space instead. Does not help if you have a hard-drive fail on you.


Loin looks all well and good, but EVERY screen shot I've seen of it show icons all over the screen. Now is this a user choice, because I like a very clean screen and if I have to have desktop icons I'll stick with Snow Leopard.

I understand it now I think, Launchpad is a new icon in your dock to view all your apps on the main screen.

Launchpad makes hunting through an applications folder a thing of the past. Just click the Launchpad icon in the Dock to open a full-screen view of all your apps represented by their icons. Click an icon to launch its app. Create folders of similar apps by dragging one app onto another, and delete apps from your system with ease. And all apps downloaded from the Mac App Store are automatically added to Launchpad, ready to go.

Hang on this cant be right :)

When you sign up for iCloud, you automatically get 5GB of free storage. And that’s plenty of room, because of the way iCloud stores your content. Your purchased music, apps, and books, as well as your Photo Stream, don’t count against your free storage.

The bit on Photo Stream says import a photo from your digital camera to your Mac I just can't see Apple storing my 450GB photo catalogue backup in the clouds for free.
 
Thing is that's tiny... Ok for ** docs but useless for photos and music!
 
it keeps the last 30 days of photos only although you can favourite ones you want to keep.

Itunes match is big news.

$25 per year. Basically. It matches all of your music not purchased on Itunes to the iTunes library in the cloud and you can access it to any device and download from the cloud to any ios device wherever you are. Because you don't need to upload the music files (presume a database thing of some sort) it takes minutes to sync up your library and if it can't find tracks on itunes it uploads the actual song from your hard drive. All apps and music purchased on itunes again can be accessed over the cloud to any ios device.

Wireless syncing as I predicted will be in ios 5. Simply connect the phone to a power source and it wirelessly syncs.

It says

Still good value - and will be even better with iCloud.
 
As a previous iPhone user who jumped to Android over a year ago and i'm always keen to see what these announcements bring.

When they come around i'm always tempted to jump back to Apple and the iPhone...... a sucker perhaps?

So far i've resisted, but the notifications etc are a welcome addition.

Okay, their iOS is mainly playing catchup with Android (notifications etc) and Blackberry (BBM / iMessages), but when Apple implement things, they usually do it right. I still find Android a bit pokey and un-polished in places and the camera on my Desire is next to useless.

No new phone announcement yesterday could well mean an announcement later in the year for the iPhone 5? Maybe to go with the actual roll-out of iOS5?

As described in the final post here, whats the point of putting a "LED Flash" feature into iOS5 when there's no hardware/light/led on the current range of phones to use it? :lol:

Remember iOS5 is not just for phone, but pad and pod too. Who knows what they have coming down the line.
 
have to catch up with this, but i just watched the lion video on the apple site and i found myself thinking half the features they are touting already exist in snow leopard

like all those gestures they were showing - i can do all of them already, what's new?

mision control or whatever it is called, is just expose but a little different, so what?

full screen is already in iLife

Launchpad I already have this - ok it's not called launchpad but drag your applications folder to your dock and it does the same thing - it'll no doubt be more streamlined

The auto save -hmmm i was skeptical of this, but it looks like it keeps versions - who's betting this is only in Apple software though? Am I really going to be able to zoom back through versions in photoshop or Flash? I doubt it.

Looking forward to iOS5 on my Ipad though, going to download the beta tomorrow and have a play
 
To be honest I used to be a mild Apple fanboy in the past but I've lost interest in the new things they are bringing out these days - my 2007 Macbook is still going as strong as ever, and besides... Im a Canon fanboy now:lol:

I think their products have gone from <innovative and exciting> to..... <a little bit desperate and not really that exciting>....
 
I think they said they were going to open up the APIs for versions to developers, but tbh I can't see Adobe using it, but I'm sure others will.

iOS 5 does look good, but I'm not taken by the iCloud stuff. I already use google docs, with my own domain and share calendars across platforms, so won't be using that part of it. Neither do I use iPhoto, or have an ipad, so the only thing photostream may get used for is with my apple tv.

I've tried the app sync (music sync doesn't seem to be available in the UK yet) and that seems good other than it still has every app I've bought, even the deleted ones available, this works just like the mac app store.

The features I'm most looking forward to in iOS 5 are the notifications and the wireless sync to my iTunes.

After reading your post I too watched the video, and I have to agree there does not look to be that much "must have" that in Lion.

I just don't understand the point of Launchpad, it's to make finding and starting an app easier, but is that not what the dock is for anyway, to get to the app you use fast. Also like you say put the app folder on you dock and you have launchpad. Maybe I just don't have enough apps, or I'm just anal in organizing apps in to folders, like a games folder

Gestures I just hate, I put the stupid magic mouse back in the box after less than one day and put my old PC mouse on. Why Apple think every one wants to work at their desktop as if it was a laptop is beyond me, and no I will not be buying that trackpad thing. Again I guess this is a personal thing but my old finger just cant move around like some kid on a mobile.

Airdrop is going to be great for a class room full of students on mac-laptops passing exam papers and such to each other ;) but absolutely no use at all to the single iMac at home user.

Full screen , well OK but your only gaining the space for the menubar at the top of a screen anyway, it's basically hide dock on command.

Things that could be more interesting are if mail is more than the current very basic email client, and iCloud, but how useful that will be to me personally is another thing.


Think I've talked myself out of spending £20 :lol:
