Hi, wasn't sure where to post this so feel free to re-direct me if needed.

I've got a chance to photography some hotels/restaurants to build up a portfolio. There only small establishments and I'm giving them a few images from the shoot to say thank you in helping me build a portfolio. But does anyone have any tips for interiors/exteriors?

I'm using a Nikon D90, Sigma 10-20, Nikon 18-55, I also have a Tamron 90mm macro for finer detailed work, tripod with ball head, spirit level, remote, I have Lee filters but not sure where they'd come in handy, and I also have a macro flash. Thats all I have in lighting so far though so I imagine that will be my biggest problem....

Thanks for any help!

Do you have any work we can see so we know what level your at?

Have a look at some hotel/restaurants images online. These are the usual shots, so made up rooms ready for people, restaurants before the rush. Details such as food and wine with nice bokeh/blur.

For example, the uwa on widest, set on a tripod in the corner, possibly light from a window just before it opens to the public (so all the tables are set up).

If they would allow it, you could try one, without flash, when the restaurant is full.

For hotels, usual pics are foyers, details (like floors or designs in the wall/ceiling), rooms (depending what they allow the more expensive the better).

If they do like the pictures, and you are giving them for free, I suggest asking them to quote you as the photographer (small text) and you can leave your contact details incase someone likes them and wants your services :)

Only other thing I can think of is to take lots of pictures, trying various settings. I personally like holding the pics using raw (you can post process and sometimes recover details), but thats your choice.

Other than that, good luck

Thank you so much! I'm going now to have a go, yeah I'm gonna ask them to list me as the photographer, I've just got my soft Sigma 10-20 replaced and it seems loads better so I'm feeling pretty hopeful! Will probably post some up for critique after.
