Are cheap flash diffusers any good?

Looking for a basic difusser for my 430EX II.
Fleabay has them starting for a couple of quid. Are the branded, more expensive versions that much better, or would cheapo do a descent job?

The fong lightsphere ones are very good and I can't see any reason why a cheap copy would be any different to the real article.

Do they really do that much? I thought it was all about the size of the diffused area rather than the opacity

You can always do some DIY .... I laminated some white paper the same width as my 430EX.... held on with some velcro....

If you mean those little Stofen-style diffuser caps for about three quid, they work just fine.

The only thing I can think of that can go wrong is the fit, but the ones I've tried are okay.
