Hi,

I've recently acquired a 3yr old compaq dc770p which has 3gb of memory and windows 7. The pc runs well but occasionally pauses when i'm using Lightroom 3 for certain tasks.

Would adding a cheapish 256mb dedicated graphics card help out or is they no real benefit over the onboards graphics - thinking of something like this 2nd hand from ebay :-

Thanks in advance,
Mike.

The problem with onboard graphics is that they use system ram which is what you need more of for image editing, the most basic GPU will benefit you by freeing up system ram for your image editing, just make sure it offers full support for your monitor and get the correct fitting.

Good dedicated GFX cards are excelent, and free up RAM, and are a lot quicker than onboard GFX, and generally have better cooling, and more choices in sockets, inc options for dual screens etc.. but you do have to pay good money for one

I would be inlined to look at something like this:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2GB-XFX-ATI-R...raphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW&hash=item1c1541f8be

basically because it will grow with you if you bump up your system RAM at a later date
