In my search for a decent and cost effective birding lens I tried several options a Nikon 300f4, Sigma 150-500mm and the Sigma 50-500mm
In Jessops they had both of the Sigma's and when I tried the 50-500mm priced at around £1100 I noted there was no mention on the lens at all about Optical Stabilisation, unlike the 150-300mm. The things that they did have in common were both they are both APO lenses and have HSM. I liked both lenses but the 50-500mm was really top of my budget, but I also made the decision to opt for the 150-500mm because of the optical stabilisation which the other lens didn't apear to have (i.e no switches on the side or labelling).
I did notice in Sigma's website that the 50-500 is supposed to have all features of the 150-500 plus OS. So are there 2 versions, or did Jessops have an older model?
