Are you experienced?

No
I meant to post this a while ago but completely forgot until something on the radio prompted my memory.

What makes you consider yourself 'experienced' in any particular area of photography?

Is it the length of time you've been doing it, or how many times you've done it?
Or do the two have to go hand in hand?

Discuss please :)

And yes, I am bored! (waiting for delivery)

I don't think it is either of the options, I've been taking pics since I was a kid and have taken thousands... BUT I never gave any thought to settings etc and was just using point and shoot cameras until very recently.

I think to be classed as experienced you have to have had training and/or have fully grasped both the artistic elements of photography as well as the technical aspects of how camera settings work in relation to one another. Both of which I know hardly anything about yet I would like to add!

Hmmm... experienced...

Well I guess of those 2 choices I'd say how many times. I've been shooting landscapes for a year... but I've done it maybe 6 times in that year. Hardly counts as experienced!

But I think experienced is a very subjective term. I mean if you've been shooting for 5 years, there's bound to be someone who's been doing it for 20. and if you're that person at 20, someone will have been doing it 30 years.

And is it even relevant? Some people may have been doing it for 20 years and not good at all, someone else could be taking the photos for 6 months and be fantastic.

I wasn't thinking about the relevance to how good someone is, but I totally agree experience implies goodness, which is partly where I'm coming from.

Maybe it's just too a random question
