Yes
I am off to Argentina in June for 10 days where I am stopping off at Buenos Aries, Tucuman and Mar del Plata. Firstly has anyone on the site been to any of these places and can give me any tips on where I can do a bit of togging?

Secondly, and this is perhaps a bit more important to me, I am desperate to take my Canon 50d but bearing in mind that I am going with a bunch of friends on what is effectively a rugby tour, I am thinking about buying a compact. I would be devastated if anything happened to my camera whilst enjoying the local hospitality.
So, my question is this. In all the circumstances should I go for a compact or should I take my 50d and a couple of lenses on what would be the trip of a lifetime?

Aaaaaaargh!! Decisions, decisons!!

I would love to buy an 'L' series lens but I have spent everything on going in the first place.

I was in Argentina a few years ago flying their advanced jet trainer. The only place that I visited on your list was BA, and that was only for 1 jet lagged day. The city cemetery was (bizarrely) recommended as somewhere to shoot - lots of gothic/baroque structures and the like.

Cheesy

I'm with Arkady on this one - you'll regret it otherwise.

As for BA itself, down by the river. The main town is pretty unexciting (in my view only).

PS. If you get the chance, go to Iguazu (quick flight North).

Amazing place, love it :D

Make sure you put the camera down and sample the steak and red wine ;)

As I am going to watch Scotland play two rugby test matches against Argentina in the company of like minded idiots, there is every chance I will be sampling too much red wine.

Take your gear, that would be my advice. If you don't want to do that get a film camera: Nikon, Olympus, Spotmatic etc. Most come with the lens and are just a revelation, you can then flog it on or keep it and enjoy both disciplines.

Just my 2p.

Enjoy the trip
